Pom-Pom Patterns

 Activity:  Making Patterns

1) Create a pattern using the colored pom-poms for the student to repeat.

I found this cute pumpkin ice cube tray to use for lots of activities!

Little learners can work on their sorting skills, too.

Simple Skills Activity

L worked on 4 skills today:  cutting, patterning, letter order, and letter formation.

1) L cut strips of paper into small squares ( I had drawn lines on the paper for him to cut).
2) L chose a patter of blue, yellow, green and laid it out on the floor.
3) L glued the squares into his workbook (I helped him make the frame).
4) Together we wrote the letters in ABC order and glued the card in the frame.  This particular activity helps with the order of things.  He writes one letter, I write the next letter, and then he has to figure out what comes next. 

Pattern Painting

L is finishing patterns with do-a-dot paints.

If you have never used do-a-dot paints I highly recommend them! The uses for them are endless!   You can find them at any craft store.

To do this activity I simply stamped out a pattern and drew a line for him to fill in the next color. I had him say the pattern out loud and then decide which color came next. I have also had him stamp out his own patterns.

Patterns to use can be ABABABAB, AABAABAAB, AABBAABBAABB, AAABAAABAAAB, etc. Once he gets these types of patterns down I'll throw in a third and fourth element. I also use stamps for patterning. I purchased some shape stamps a year ago and we do the same type of activity with those. But you could use any stamps you want.
